The Victorian's believed ferns were a symbol of magic, fascination and confidence. They were so enamored with the plants that many collected them and the term Pteridomania was coined.

This vintage locket we believe is a little newer in age but was likely inspired by designs of ferns made popular in the Victorian era. It features a beautiful depiction of a fern, highlighted by a deep blue enamel to the front. The back also has a wonderful floral and geometric pattern so the locket could be worn with either side showing - almost like two pendants in one!

The locket is made of a gold tone base metal and the front panel has a deep blue enamel. It opens to reveal two half sections inside.

The locket measures approx 26.5mm tall (not including the jump ring at the top but including the ring the jump ring is attached to) by approx 17.5mm wide by aprox 6.8mm deep and weighs approx 4.3g in total.

Condition - The locket is in wearable condition but does show significant signs of age and wear, it has definitely lived quite the life. The enamel is chipped in places and has worn away, it isn't as neat as it first likely would have been. The floral and geometric back panel is coming away from the frame to one side. When left it sits fairly flush to the locket frame still but when pushed from the inside you can see how it is coming away. We have shown this in the last three photographs above. There is surface wear and some dark marks to the locket both inside and out. The locket still opens and closes well. It closes with a click. The ring at the top has some old solder marks where it was joined on to the locket. The jump ring is pushed closed. This is a well loved and worn piece. Please see photos.

*Please note the chain and box pictured are not included in the sale but the locket will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch.*
