This fob is such a beautiful piece of jewellery, originally made to wear on a watch chain and have close to hand for when you needed to stamp a wax seal, we think it makes an unusual pendant when worn on a chain.
The bottom of the fob is set with a piece of carved bloodstone which reads 'Hoc majorum virtus' which we believe means 'this is the valour of my ancestors'. This paired with a heart with a passion nail driven through it link the intaglio to the Scottish Clan Logan. There also looks to be two gothic font initials too which we believe are 'I I'. The design is mirrored so when the fob is used, the design is printed into the wax the right way round.
The fob is made of a base metal with a light layer of gilding to give the look of gold but without the price tag. This gilding has worn away in places. There is a fixed bail at the top which can be used to put the fob directly onto a chain or charm holder/clasp or a jump ring could be added to this.
The fob measures approx 21.5mm tall by approx 12.4mm wide by approx 10.9mm deep and weighs approx 3.4g in total.
Condition - The fob is in good vintage condition but does show signs of age and wear. There is wear to the gilded base metal casing where, as mentioned above, the gold coloured layer has worn away and the base metal underneath is showing through. There is also some surface wear to the intaglio in the bottom. The fixed bail can be used to slide directly on to a chain or clip. Please see photos.
*Please note the antique box and chain pictured are not included in the sale but the fob will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch.*
