If you love your jewels a little bit creepy and a tad out of the ordinary then this incredible spider necklace could be for you! It also makes such a fitting piece for Halloween too and is such a rare and highly colectable piece.
Featuring a fixed, small baroque pearl in the centre of the chain, a well-detailed, gemstone-set spider hangs in a circular frame from the pearl's setting via two further sections of chain. The spider's body is set with a square cut blue sapphire and the spider also has two glinting green, possibly demantoid, garnet eyes.
The necklace is made of 9ct gold and the spider is marked to the back '9ct'. There are also what look to be two faint hand-scribed marks above and below the '9ct' mark which we think were likely stock counting marks. Without full hallmarks, it's hard to date the necklace exactly but we think it's likely early 20th Century in age, it could possibly be earlier than this and could be antique rather than vintage (to be antique a piece has to be over 100 years old).
The necklace weighs approx 3.4g in total and the chain measures approx 16 1/4 inches long not including the spider drop from the pearl. This drop from the pearl measures approx 1 1/2 inches and the circle the spider sits in has a diameter of approx 19.8mm.
Condition - The necklace is in good vintage condition but does show signs of age including some surface wear to the gold and gemstones. There is a visible inclusion within the sapphire. The chain is in good condition and the clasp still functions well. Please see photos.
