This is such a beautifully decorated gold anchor charm, perfect for a sailor or sea lover. Anchors are also said to symbolise hope and being grounded so it would make a lovely wearable reminder too!
The anchor has pretty detailing to the front and is set with a twinkling diamond in a sweet star setting. There's also a gold rope wrapped around the anchor too, what's known as a 'fouled anchor'.
The charm is made of 9ct gold and is marked '9ct' to the back. There is also a maker's mark that looks to be 'WBS' or 'VBS', the W/V initial is worn away to the left hand side. It's hard to date the charm exactly without further hallmarks but we think it's likely mid 20th Century in age.
The charm measures approx 30mm tall (not including the jump ring) by approx 24.2mm wide by approx 4.4mm deep and weighs approx 2.5g. The anchor is hollow in the centre and there is a small airhole to the back from when the charm was made.
Condition - The charm is in good vintage condition but it does show signs of age and wear throughout. There is surface wear to the gold and dings in places to the anchor, particularly to the bottom and the back. There is a mark to the gold, just above where the diamond is set, where the rope passes over the front. The diamond shows some signs of age and wear including some surface wear under close inspection. The ring at the top that the jump ring connects to is pushed closed and the jump ring is also currently pushed closed. Please see photos.
