We love the thought this antique, Victorian gold year brooch conjures up! Was it made to commemorate a year of birth or perhaps the year a couple wed. Sadly we'll never know but we love the possibilities! These antique year/date pieces are highly collectable, with people often collecting as many consecutive years as they can find.
This particular brooch displays the year '1895' wit the numbers set with rose cut diamonds set in silver. The pin/bar section of the brooch is made of yellow gold which tests as at least 9ct gold.
The brooch has a simple safety pin style mechanism which dates to the Victorian era.
The brooch weighs approx 3.7g in total and measures approx 46.1mm wide by approx 9mm tall. The '1895' section is approx 22mm wide.
Condition - The brooch is in good antique condition to say it is approx 130 years old but does show some light signs of age and wear to the gold, silver and diamonds. The rose cut diamonds vary in shape and size and are in closed back settings so care needs to be taken when worn, especially around liquids. The hinge still works well and the pin is still nice and straight. Please see photos.
