This fob is such a beautiful piece of jewellery, originally made to wear on a watch chain and have close to hand for when you needed to stamp a wax seal, we think it makes an unusual pendant when worn on a chain.
The bottom of the fob is set with a piece of carved carnelian which features a leaf and the phrase in French 'Toujours le meme' which means 'Always the same' or 'still the same'. We like to think this symbolises the cyclical pattern of nature and life.
The fob is made of a base metal which has been gilded to give the look of solid gold but without the price tag. There is a fixed bail at the top which can be used to put the fob directly onto a chain or charm holder/clasp or a jump ring could be added to this.
The fob measures approx 22mm tall by approx 14.8mm wide by approx 12mm deep and weighs approx 3.3g in total. The carved base measures approx 10.8mm by 9.2mm.
Condition - The fob is in good antique condition but does show signs of age and wear. There is wear to the base metal casing with some of the gilding having worn away in places and there is also some surface wear to the intaglio in the bottom. The fixed bail can be used to slide directly on to a chain or clip. There is wear around the bail where it has previously rubbed on a fitting or chain. Please see photos.
*Please note the antique box and chain pictured are not included in the sale but the fob will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch.*
