This antique gold and turquoise love knot brooch is such a sweet piece! The birthstone for December babies, the brooch has such a sentimental feel with the centre focus of the pin being a simple gold love knot. It would make a lovely piece for a bride on her wedding day, perhaps as her something 'old' and 'blue'!
The pin is made of 9ct gold (tested as it's unhallmarked) and is a mixture of lovely old yellow and rose tones. At either end of the pin is a small turquoise cabochon set in closed back bezel settings. There is also a third small turquoise cabochon set in the centre of the love knot too. The pin has a simple 'C' clasp. Without hallmarks it's hard to date the pin exactly but we belive it's likely dates to around 1900.
The pin measures approx 34.1mm wide by approx 9mm tall weighs approx 2g in total.
Condition - The pin is in good wearable antique condition but does show some significant signs of age and wear to the gold and turquoise, including to the pin at the back. The pin is quite misshapen but it does still work well. The front bar that holds the love knot and turquoise stones is also a little misshapen but we think this could possibly have been how it was made to accommodate the love knot. The turquoise do vary in colour, with one being significantly greener in colour than the other two which a bluer in tone.
