Often given as medals for competitions and engraved with the winner's details, we love to find these antique fobs to see what detailing they have to the front. This incredible gold fob has the most beautiful detailing to the front depicting the Leeds, England Coat of Arms. This is made up of three owls, three stars, a golden fleece and the Latin motto 'Pro Rege Et Lege' which means 'For King and the Law'.
Around the edge of the medal there is hand engraving that reads 'Yorkshire Agricultural Society Leeds Show 1910' and the back has also been hand engraved too. Around the outside reads ' First prize for hand bouquet of wild flowers competition' and the centre reads 'Presented by the Lady Mayoress of Leeds Mrs Penrose-Green'.
It's rare to come across such a fine example and one linked to horticulture too!
The fob is made of 9ct gold and has British hallmarks to the front for the maker 'G.E.A', 9ct gold, Birmingham and the date letter 'l' for 1910.
The fob measures approx 34mm tall (Not including the jump ring but including the fitting at the top) by approx 29.6mm wide by approx 3.7mm deep and weighs approx 7.1g. It is hollow in the centre.
Condition - The fob is in good antique condition but does show some signs of age and wear. There is some surface wear to the gold, including a little tarnishing in places and some small dings. The jump ring is currently pushed closed. Please see photos.
