This incredibly rare and highly collectable vintage gold charm is just the sweetest! Made of 9ct gold, the charm is a three dimensional safe that actually opens to reveal a dangling gold heart inside to represent the phrase 'Keep my heart safe'.
The charm has been so well made, the wheel handle to the front actually spins and it turns a latch inside that helps to keep the door closed unless it is in the correct position. We've never seen another before with this sort of opening mechanism!
The charm is made of 9ct gold and has British hallmarks to the back for the maker 'GJLD', 9ct gold, London and the date letter 'i' for 1964. Next to the hallmarks is a hand-etched code 'X2710' which we think it likely an old stock number.
The charm weighs approx 4g and measures approx 17.2mm tall (not including the jump ring) by approx 13.3mm wide by approx 11.2mm deep.
Condition - The charm is in good vintage condition but does show some signs of age including some light surface wear to the gold throughout. The door hinge still works well and the door clicks closed when the lever inside is out of the way. When turned to the correct position, the lever helps the door stay closed but the wheel can turn on its own so it can move to the unlocked position when worn/moved around. Even when the latch/wheel moves, the door still needs pulling slightly to open so it does generally stay closed when worn. The jump ring is currently soldered closed. Please see photos.
