Known as keeper rings, these braided style bands were popular during the Victorian era, worn to keep other rings, usually more expensive pieces with gemstones, on your finger when worn. They were particularly helpful if you had a ring that was a little loose and at risk of falling off when worn.
This vintage ring has been designed with the Victorian style in mind. Due to its size, it wears well as a pinky ring or even an above the knuckle ring, depending on your finger size.
The front of the ring features a pattern to imitate braided gold with ball (also sometimes called 'nail') detailing along the plait. There are 6 gold balls in total.
The ring is made of 9ct yellow gold and has British hallmarks inside the shank for the maker 'P&SJ', 9ct gold, London. Without a date hallmark it's hard to date the ring exactly but we believe it's likely circa 1990s in age.
Ring size - approx just over a US 3, approx 3.25 / approx a UK G
The faux braided section to the front measures approx 11.3mm by approx 3.2mm and the ring tapers down to approx 1.25mm wide at the back. The ring weighs approx 0.7g in total.
Condition - The ring is in well used vintage condition with surface wear to the gold. The back of the ring is a little misshapen. Please see photos for more details.
*Please note the box pictured is not included in the sale but the ring will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch*
