We love jewellery that's practical as well as beautiful and this vintage gold and enamel telescopic/retractable pencil pendant is exactly that! It would make a fantastic piece for a writer or editor to symbolise their passion, or a great statement piece of jewellery that is sure to be a conversation started when worn.
 
The casing gold, unhallmarked but tested, and we believe it has a base metal core in places. This gives the pendant extra stength and durability rather than if it was made of solid gold. Base metal cen be seen inside the case when the pencil section is removed. The case also has the most wonderful bright blue guilloche enamel detail all the way around with white polka dots. 
 
When the bottom of the pendant is pulled, a pencil section is removed which then pulls out to extend so it can be used as a real pencil. It even still holds some lead so it can actually be used to write with and this can be replaced as it is used so it is always functional.
 
The pendant measures approx 30mm long (not including the jump, when the pencil is closed up inside) by approx 9mm wide and weighs approx 7.25g  in total. The gold is rose toned in colour and the jump ring is a newer solid 9ct gold ring that is yellow in colour.
 
Condition - The pendant is in good, wearable vintage condition but does show signs of age and wear, including some small areas of loss to the enamel and some areas where the white layer shows through the blue. There are some small places on the gold where it looks as if some of the base shows through the top layer of gold. The pencil still extends well and fits firmly inside the case. The jump ring is currently pushed closed. Please see photos.
