We love coming across celestial jewels and this beauituful pendant is such a wonderful example, complete with a crescent moon and star!
We think the moon and star started life as an antique piece of jewellery. These are made of 15ct gold (unhallmarked but tested), the moon is studded with 10 seed pearls of varying sizes and the star is set with a beautiful old cut diamond. A bale has been later added in a rosier 9ct gold (unhallmarked but tested) which is set with a tiny faux diamond, clear paste stone in a complimentary star setting. We're not sure if the moon and star were always part of a pendant or maybe it has been converted from an antique brooch or large piece.
The bail at the top is connected by a simple hinge so it has some movement to it and folds backwards. There is also a pretty drilled pearl drop to the bottom of the moon that gives lovely movement to the pendant when worn.
We've listed the pendant as vintage as we believe it's likely a vintage conversion, circa mid-late 20th Century, but we do believe the 15ct gold section is likely antique, Victorian given its materials and design.
The pendant weighs approx 2g and measures approx 29.5mm tall (including the bail and the pearl drop) by approx 14mm wide by approx 4.6mm deep.
Condition - The pendant is in good vintage/antique condition but does show signs of age and wear. As mentioned above, the bail looks to be a later addition to the star and moon section as the golds are two different shades and carats. The old cut diamond set in the star does have a small chip to it towards the top edge. There does also look to be one of the smallest seed pearls missing from the bottom of the crescent, there is glue residue in the space so this isn't noticeable until close inspection as a gap hasn't been left. The seed pearls do vary in colour and condition. The last two photos have been taken under magnification so you can see the diamond and missing seed pearl up close. Please see photos.
