A timeless classic, we love finding lockets as they just never seem to go out of style and are truly romantic pieces! We love to wonder about what sweet love tokens were originally kept inside too.
 
This antique gold cased locket is one of the smallest we've ever found, yet it still has a lovely depth to the compartment so could be used to hold a photo or other tiny memento. The locket is wonderfully detailed throughout and has a beveled glass window so you can see what's inside when it's worn. 
Small lockets like these have become highly collectable and are becoming very hard to find these days, especially in such good condition.
 
The locket is gold cased, meaning it has a base metal core with a fine layer of gold covering the outside to give the look of solid gold but without the price tag. It is has extra strength due to the base metal too. The door of the locket tests as gold. The locket is unhallmarked. 
Without hallmarks, it’s hard to date the locket exactly but we think given its style and materials it’s likely late Victorian in age, circa 1890s. 
 
The locket weighs approx 1.95g and measures approx 20.1mm tall including the hinged bail at the top by approx 12.9mm wide by approx 4.4mm deep. The glass window measures approx 9mm in diameter. 
 
Condition - The locket is in good antique condition considering it is over 100 years old but does show signs of age and wear including surface wear to the front and back and also inside the locket too. The locket hinge still works well and the door clicks closed. The glass has some surface scratches and nibbles to it. Please see photos.
