We love finding antique and vintage chains, they seem to be getting harder and harder to find these days too! This particular chain has a really lovely faceted belcher link as well as a super versatile faceted dog clip too - great for adding charms to. 
 
Chains like these were known as 'muff' or 'guard' chains and their super long lengths make them great for doubling up or wearing as one long length. The chain has a fixed dog clip which charms and pendants can easily be added to.
 
The chain is gilded/made of rolled gold which is a base metal centre covered with a fine layer of gold to give the look of a solid gold chain but without the price tag. The metal has a lovely yellow tone, quite often these are more of a rose shade. The dog clip is marked with the maker's mark 'NCRCO'. 
 
The chain measures approx 52 1/2 inches long including the dog clip (the dog clip measures approx 3/4 of an inch long) and the belcher link is approx 3.1mm wide. The chain weighs approx 31.9g in total.
 
Condition - The chain is in good wearable vintage condition but does show signs of age and wear. The links, especially where they rub together, do have areas where the top layer of gold has worn away and the base metal can be seen underneathr. This is darker in colour than the top layer of gold. There are a couple of links with a dark mark to them, towards the centre of the chain. We've photographed this above and have cleaned this up as much as we can. The dog clip hinge still work well. Please see photos.
