One of three birthstones for June, moonstone is such a magical looking stone. Said to promote inner strength and growth, this vintage moonstone ring displays such beautiful shades of blue when the light catches it.
 
The moonstone cabochon is set in an open back beszel setting made of 9ct yellow gold and has been set upon a shank that is made up of two 9ctgold rings that sit flush together at the back and part at the front of the ring to support the moonstone. 
 
The ring looks to have a gold mark inside the shank but it is now very worn and hard to make out. The ring tests as 9ct gold. Without hallmarks, it's hard to date the ring exactly but we think it's likely late 20th Century in age, circa 1970s. 
 
Ring size - approx a US 5 / approx a UK J 1/2
 
The moonstone in its setting measures approx 12mm East to West by approx 6.5mm North to South and stands 6.5mm tall in its setting giving the ring's fae some lovely height when worn and a great side profile too! The ring shank is approx 2mm wide at the back of the ring. The ring weighs approx 2g.
 
Condition - The ring is in good vintage condition but does show signs of age and wear, both to the gold and the moonstone. The moonstone has surface wear to it, the last three photos show the stone under magnification so you can see the condition up close. The gold shank and setting also have some surface wear to them. As with most moonstone gemstones, when in the light at certain angles, the stone glows a beautiful blue shade and at other angles the stone can appear almost grey/semi clear. Please see photos for more details.
