We love snake jewellery and couldn't help but be drawn to this vintage gold and garnet eyed snake ring. Snakes are said to represent eternal love and were a very popular symbol during the Victorian era, thanks to Queen Victoria having a snake ring as her engagement ring!
We love the way the snake's body wraps around itself to form the ring. The ring is wonderfully detailed throughout and is slightly flexible so it can be manipulated to be slightly larger or smaller. The ring is made of 9ct gold, marked '375' to the back of the snake's head and likely has a metal wire core to give the ring its structure/flexible design. The snake has been set with two glinting garnet eyes.
The ring weighs approx 3.3g and the snake's head measures approx 5.5mm wide by approx 10mm long (from the tip of the snake’s nose to the point where the flexible body connects to the head) and the body of the snake is approx 3.1mm wide. There is a fixed tail at the very end that measures approx 2.9mm wide by 4.1mm long.
Ring size - the ring measures up at approx a US size 7-7 1/2 / approx a UK N 1/2-O 1/2 on a ring mandrel, due to its flexible style it can be made slightly smaller or larger by manipulating the snake’s body. The last two photos show the ring on the mandrel.
Condition - The ring is in good vintage condition with just some light signs of age and wear, including surface wear to the gold and garnets. Please see photos.
*Please note the antique box pictured and ring mandrel are not included in the sale but the ring will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch*
