This is such an unusual vintage gold horse charm! It's the first horse charm we've found with a a direct connection to horse racing.
Not only does it have wonderful enamel detail to the front, highlighting the horse's features and the jockey riding it (if 15 is you're lucky number then this could be such a fun charm for you!), but the back of the charm has been blackened/tarnished to give the gold a black appearance. We think this might be to represent the phrase 'you're a dark horse', meaning you're an unexpected competitor who surprises people with their hidden talent. Maybe this was someone's lucky race horse charm!?
The charm is made of 9ct gold, marked '9ct' to the back. Without further marks it's hard to date the charm exactly but we think it's likely circa 1950s in age.
The charm measures approx 16.3mm tall (not including the jump ring) by approx 14.5mm wide by approx 1.5mm deep and weighs approx 1.1g.
Condition - The charm is in good vintage condition but does show signs of age and wear including some small chips and wear to the enamel. As mentioned above, the gold to the back has been darkened/blackened. The jump ring is currently pushed closed. Please see photos.
*Please note the antique chain and box pictured are not included in the sale but the charm will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch*
