How fun is this vintage gold and enamel flying duck ring!? We love that the duck is mid flight with its wings outstretched and the enamel detailing to the head is so sweet too.
The ring band has British hallmarks for the maker 'APA, 9ct gold, London and the date letter 'M' for 1947. There is also an 'O' utility mark, a hallmark introduced during WWII. The mark indicated that the fineness of gold was no more than 9ct and a weight of less than 2dwts. The utility mark also indicated that they had been produced with government authority.
The ring band has a lovely soft rose gold tone to it and the duck itself is a brighter yellow gold that tests as at least 9ct gold. We think this is a conversion piece and the duck likely has been taken from a pin or brooch and added to the ring band at a later date. The conversion has been carried out very well and the duck's wings even curve so they sit close to the finger when worn.
Ring size - approx a US 7 1/2-3/4 / approx a UK P
The duck measures approx 13.3mm tall by approx 17.1mm wide and the ring band measures approx 2.2mm wide. The ring weighs approx 3.6g in total.
Condition - The ring is in good vintage condition with just some light surface wear to the gold and enamel. Due to the duck's pointed wings, although they have been shaped to follow the curve of the ring when worn, they can catch on things so care needs to be taken when worn. Please see photos.
*Please note the antique box pictured is not included in the sale but the ring will be shipped in a new ring box and pouch*
