We love the simple beauty of a flush set diamond. This antique old cut diamond has been beautifully set in a smooth flush, also known as a rub over, setting that sees the diamond nestled within the gold. The ring has a lovely, slightly domed shape making it feel soft to touch and very comfortable to wear. And the best part about settings in this style (we think!) is that the top of the diamond sits above the setting so the ring has a gorgeous side profile too!
The ring itself is made of 9ct white gold, this has lost its plating over the years (this is what gives white gold its silver/platinum colouring) and is now slightly yellower in places. The setting around the diamond is still more silver in tone as this hasn't worn as much. The ring could be replated to give the true silver/platinum colouring but we love the natural tones of 9ct white gold.
The ring has British hallmarks for the maker 'BT', 9ct gold, London and the date letter 'Q' for 1990. The diamond is an old cut which pre dates the year the ring was made (likely by circa 100 years) so we believe it is an antique diamond that has been reset in 1990, perhaps because the wearer loved white gold more than yellow gold as this style of ring is often found in yellow gold, but not as often in white gold.
Ring size - approx a US 5.5 / approx a UK K 1/2 The ring is wider to the front, tapering down to the back so this style can wear a little snugger than it measures up on a ring mandrel.
The ring weighs approx 3.55g and it measures approx 7.4mm wide at the front, tapering down to approx 3.3mm wide at the back of the shank. Without removing the diamond from the setting we cannot give exact stone measurements but the stone measures approx 3mm by 2.6mm.
Condition - The ring is in good vintage condition but does show signs of age and wear. As mentioned above, the 9ct white gold has lost its plating so it does have a yellower tone to it (this could be replated). The white gold tone is still seen around the diamond's setting and also inside the ring's shank. There is surface wear and noticeable surface scratches to the gold and the diamond is an antique old cut and does show signs of age and wear including surface wear upon close inspection.
