There's something so satisfying about a perfectly round piece of jewellery and this vintage 1960s gold orb locket is such a fabulous spherical gem!
Ball-shaped lockets like these are becoming very hard to find these days and make great wearable little storage vessels due to their depth, unlike the usual thinner style lockets..
The locket is spherical with wonderful chased scroll detailing to the whole of the outside. It's so beautiful from the outside, it's easy to miss that it's actually a locket that opens!
Inside, one half of the orb has a window compartment to keep a photo or other small memento. There is one clear plastic window, a frame to hold this in place and what looks to be the original blue backing card with some extra 'padding' behind to fill out the depth which could be removed if desired.
The locket has British hallmarks to the back for the maker 'NBs', 9ct gold, Birmingham and the date letter 'S' for 1967. It also has a registered number of 'RD DN NO 929,971'.
The locket measures approx 16.5mm in diameter (approx 24.1mm tall including the fitting and jump ring at the top) and weighs approx 4.1g in total.
Condition - The locket is in very good vintage condition with light surface wear to the gold. The hinge mechanism still works well and the charm clicks firmly closed The locket looks to have the original clear plastic window, frame and backing card inside. The locket has possibly never had anything added to the inside before. The jump ring is currently pushed closed. Please see photos.
*Please note the chain and box pictured are not included in the sale but the charm will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch.*
