This vintage 9ct gold heart padlock bracelet would be the perfect base for a charm bracelet. Although we have to admit it does look really pretty worn as it is too and given its heavy weight and graduated link, it's sure to make a real statement just as it is!
Both the bracelet chain and padlock are made of 9ct gold, each link of the curb chain has British hallmarks for 9ct gold! Such a lovely attention to detail. We love that the curb link is graduated in size too, moving from smaller links at one end, to the widest links in the middle, tapering back down to the smaller links again at the other end.
The back of the padlock has British hallmarks for the maker 'A.S', 9ct gold, Birmingham and what looks to be the date letter 'M' for 1961. The top bar of the padlock is also hallmarked '9.375' for 9ct gold.
The curb link chain measures approx 7 1/2 inches long and the chain link is approx 7mm wide at its widest links, tapering down to approx 5mm wide at each end. There is an attached safety chain which means that the bracelet opens to approx 10 1/2 inches long to slip over the hand to be worn. The padlock measures approx 18.6mm tall by approx 12.4mm wide by approx 2.9mm deep. The bracelet weighs approx 17.9g in total.
The padlock opens by pulling the top lever upwards and closes by being pushed back down again until you hear a click. This mechanism still works well. The padlock also has pretty faux screw and keyhole details to the front and there is a safety chain attached to the padlock and bracelet keeping them all connected together.
Condition - The bracelet is in good vintage condition but does show signs of age and wear to the chain and padlock. There is some surface wear to the gold throughout on both the chain and padlock. The two links that attach onto the padlock at each end of the chain are a little worn in places and the top lever/bar of the padlock also shows some wear to it. Some of the hallmarks are rubbed and worn in places, making them hard to all read clearly. The padlock clasp still works well. Please see photos.
