These vintage and antique gold fobs are such incredible pieces to find. This is the first we've found that is made of gilded sterling silver, giving the look of a solid gold fob but without the price tag!
These medals were often awarded as sporting competition prizes and this medal has beautiful enamel detailing to the front depicting Birchfield Harriers and a red rose. We believe it's connected to the British Birchfield Harriers Athletics Club founded in 1877. The back of the fob has raised detailing which reads 'Alexander Memorial 1934' with a pretty wreath detail too.
The fob is made of sterling silver and has British hallmarks for Birmingham, the Lion Passant for sterling silver and the date letter for '1946'. The fob has been gilded, adding a fine layer of gold to the surface.
The fob weighs approx 11.1g and measures approx 25.6mm in diameter (approx 35.6mm tall including the jump ring) by approx 2.4mm deep.
Condition - The fob is in good vintage condition but does show signs of age and wear, including surface wear to the gilding and enamel. The enamel is in good condition for its age but it does have surface wear including some scratches. There is a maker's mark but it's a little hard to read clearly. The jump ring is currently pushed closed. Please see photos.
*Please note the chain and box pictured are not included in the sale but the fob will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch.*
