We can't help but think that this vintage gold charm was based on either a jewellery box or a pirate's treasure chest! The lid actually opens but sadly there are no jewels or treasure inside. However the box is so incredibly detailed to the outside it definitely makes up for it!
The charm is made of 9ct yellow gold and has British hallmarks on the bottom for the maker 'H&Co' and '9ct' for 9ct gold. The lid is hinged and pulls to open. There would have once been a little gold latch to keep the lid closed but this is now missing.
The charm measures approx 13.3mm tall (not including the jump ring) by approx 14mm wide by approx 8.3mm deep and weighs approx 2.5g.
Condition - The charm is in good vintage condition but does show some signs of age and wear, including surface wear to the gold. The hinge still works well but as mentioned above, there once would have been a little latch to keep the lid closed when worn and this latch is now missing. The hinge is quite firm so the lid does generally stay closed when shut but without the latch it now could open when worn. The jump ring is currently pushed closed and is connected to the box handle so it does move a little from side to side when worn. Please see photos.
