We love searching for antique and vintage charms as we never know what we're going to find next. Just like this rare 1970s gold moving charm! It's modelled on what's known as a 'engine order telegraph', a tool that's found on ships and submarines for the pilot on the bridge to communicate to the engineers in the engine room.
Both of the sides are detailed, and have some fun messages on (not what you'd find on one that's actually on a ship!) Each has four categories/messages, one side reads 'YES', 'NO', 'STOP', 'GO' and the other reads 'LOVE', 'HATE', 'FAST', '?'.
The lever actually turns making the charm such a fun, whimsical piece. We've never seen another quite like it before!
The charm has been made in a lovely three dimensional way and even stands on its own - the sign of a well made charm. The charm is made of 9ct yellow gold and has British hallmarks for what looks to be the maker 'S&K' (the k is a little worn), 9ct gold, London and the date letter 'r' for 1972.
The charm weighs approx 4g and measures (when the lever is at the top, 12 o'clock position) approx 24.3mm tall (not including the jump ring) by approx 11.7mm wide by approx 9.2mm deep. The charm inside is hollow which can be seen from the opening at the base.
Condition - The charm is in good condition with some surface wear to the gold throughout. The moving lever/arm moves quite freely so it moves when worn The jump ring is currently pushed closed. Please see photos.
*Please note the antique box and chain pictured are not included in the sale but the charm will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch.*
