How sweet is this antique, Victorian opal and seed pearl gold ring?! We love the way the central opal is framed by three little seed pearls on either side, set almost as if to look like leaves. The ring is over 120 years old and has the British hallmarks to show for it too!
The ring is made from hallmarked 9ct gold with British hallmarks inside the shank for 9ct gold, Birmingham and the date letter 'a' for 1900. There is also a maker's mark but this is a little worn now and cannot be made out fully.
It weighs appox 1.9g and the face measures approx 7mm wide at its widest point tapering down to approx 2mm wide at the back of the shank.
Ring size - approx a US size 7 / approx a UK O (due to the width of the ring at the front, we think it feels to fit a little smaller than this when worn)
Condition - For a ring that is over 100 years old, it is in good antique condition, however it does show significant signs of age and wear. We believe the opal is a later replacement and there are signs under magnification of glue residue from when the opal has been set. We believe the seed pearls are original. There are marks to the back of the ring, inside and out, from what looks to be a previous resize. This resize has disturbed the hallmarks slightly and the 9ct gold mark is partially visible. There is surface wear to the gold throughout. Due to the types of stones and how they have been set, the ring must not come into contact with liquids as this may damage the stones' settings. Please see photos.
*Please note that the ring box pictured is not included in the sale but the ring will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch.*
