How sweet is this antique gold Mizpah pendant!? The Hebrew word for watchtower, for centuries, particularly during the Victorian era, sweethearts have given Mizpah jewellery to their loved one when they have been separated from one another in the hope that they will remain safe and well whilst apart, until they are reunited.
 
This romantic pendant has raised gold detailing depicting the word 'MIZPAH' with writing above and below that reads:
 
'The Lord watch between thee & me when we are absent one from another'
 
The pendant has a lovely bobble border detail and to the back there is a circular section set with a piece of mother of pearl. We think this likely could have been a locket compartment that may once have had a piece of glass instead. 
 
The pendant is made of 9ct gold with British hallmarks for 9ct gold, Birmingham and the date letter 'a' for 1900. There is a second 9ct gold hallmark to the side.
 
The pendant measures approx 28.1mm tall (including the bail at the top) by approx 21.8mm wide by aprox 4.2mm deep and weighs approx 3g in total. The pendant is hollow in the centre.
 
Condition - The pendant is in wearable antique condition but does show significant signs of age and wear, including surface wear, some dark marks and some dents to the front and back. The pendant is hollow in the centre and there are some small holes along the edge and some gaps along the seam line. Some of the ball detailing to the edge is also now damaged. This is a well loved and worn antique piece and shows signs of its age. Please see photos.
