This Antique gold compass charm/pendant is such a fun piece of a jewellery. The compass needle moves (we can't vouch for it's accuracy today though), giving the charm a lovely quirky element. We love its symbolism too, representing motivation and direction.
The compass casing/frame is made of 9ct gold with the side having British hallmarks. The maker's mark and gold carat mark are now quite worn but the Birmingham assay mark and date letter can still be made out. The date letter is 'y' for 1898 making the compass over 125 years old!
The compass itself has a glass window and the back of the charm/pendant is set with a round slice of bloodstone so it can be worn with either side facing forwards for two different looks.
The pendant measures approx 22.7mm tall (not including the jump ring) by approx 19mm wide by approx 8.7mm deep and weighs approx 6.55g.
Condition - The pendant is in good antique condition but does show signs of age and wear which is to be expected with a piece of this age. The glass window has marks to it and what looks to be a rust stain from the compass needle. The gold casing has wear to the hallmarks and has some indents as it is likely hollow behind. The bloodstone also has some surface wear to it. The jump ring is currently soldered closed. As mentioned above the compass needle does still move but we cannot vouch for its accuracy. It can sometimes become a little stuck but with a light shake it frees the needle and it moves as it should again. Please see photos and video.
*Please note the antique box and chain pictured are not included in the sale but the charm/pendant will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch.*
