This antique heart shaped locket is such a sweet piece. The front is decorated with a trio of turquoise cabochons and the prettiest floral chased details. The back of the heart has a circular glass locket compartment that holds a lock of woven hair. Often, these locket compartments were kept to the back so that they were hidden from view when worn and kept the token held inside closer to the wearer's heart - how romantic!
The locket is made of 15ct gold, unhallmarked but tested, and the top jump ring is made of 9ct gold. Without hallmarks, it's hard to date the locket exactly but we believe it's most likely Victorian in age, circa late 19th Century.
The heart measures approx 14.2mm tall (not including the jump rings) by approx 11mm wide by approx 5mm deep and weighs approx 1g
Condition - The heart is in good antique condition but does show signs of age and wear including some surface wear to the gold, turquoise and glass locket compartment. A couple of the turquoise cabochons have chips to them. There are two jump rings, the first is soldered and the second is pushed closed. Please see photos.
