Where do we start with this wonderful antique Albertina watch chain!? It has been incredibly well made and features a beautiful slider that moves up and down the strands of chain. To one side it has enamel detailing of what looks to be roses and the other side has pretty engraved engraved floral details too.
There are four strands of chain, two twist/rope style and two almost curb-link in style. At one end if a useful dog clip clasp and to the other there is a jump ring the dog clip can be clipped onto and a fixed twist style T-bar. There's also a chain drop with a silver tassel too!
The chain is what's known as an Albertina, a version of the well known Albert watch chain, named after Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert. The Albertina was designed for ladies to wear their pocket watch on.
The chain today could be worn in a variety of ways. It makes a stunning bracelet and it can also be added to other bracelet chains or necklaces to create a longer necklace (we have attached it to to a 9ct gold belcher chain in the photos above so you can see how this could be done).
The chain is made of silver, unhallmarked.
The alberina chain measures approx 8 1/2 inches long from the dog clip clasp (included in the measurement) to the jump ring the dog clip clips on to.
When laid fully stretched out, from the dog clip clasp to the end of the tassel it measures approx 12 inches long in length. This is when laid out completely flat with the chain and tassel drop stretched outwards. The single chain and tassel drop is fixed at one end and hangs rather than being part of the overall chain length when worn.
The single chain and tassel drop from the jump ring to the end of the tassel measures approx 3 1/2 inches long.
The four chain section, including the decorative ends, measures approx 7 1/2 inches long.
The slider measures approx 17.5mm by 21.1mm by 5.2mm.
The - T-bar measures approx 29.6mm wide.
The chain weighs approx 22.2g in total.
Condition - The albertina chain is in good antique condition but does show signs of age and wear. There is some surface wear to the silver throughout and to the enamel slider. The tassel has seven chain tassels with ball detail at the ends - two of these are now missing the ball detail. Please see photos.
*Please note, the antique box and the 9ct gold belcher chain pictured are not included in the sale but the antique silver albertina chain will be sent in a new presentation box and pouch.*
