We found this antique ring in a bit of a sorry state, but we could see the beauty it still held. It was missing a centre stone and the ring itself needed a good clean so we've had a tiny but beautifully coloured opal cabochon set in the centre and given the ring an overall deep clean. It now sparkles once again and the true beauty of the diamonds can really be seen!
The ring shank is made from yellow gold (it isn't hallmarked but it tests as 9ct gold). The ring's face is made from silver and is studed with a two rwo deep halo of old rose cut diamonds, framing a central opal. The stones are all set in open back settings and the shoulders of the ring also have some lovely detailing to them.
We believe the ring dates to the late Victorian period due to its style and materials but as it isn't hallmarked it is hard to date exactly. It was common for pieces not to be hallmarked during this time.
Ring size - US 6.5 / UK NM 1/2
The ring weighs 2.5g and the ring's face measures approx 11mm by 10mm.
Condition - The ring is in good antique condition but does show signs of age and wear, including light surface scratches to the gold. The opal is a new replacement stone and we've had two of the diamonds reset as they were loose when we discovered the ring. We've had the other settings checked by our jeweller and the stones are secure, but we do advise that extra care is taken when wearing this ring as it is quite a delicate piece. The diamonds vary in shape, size and condition. They are rose cut diamonds which were hand cut and so no two are the same.
