We love jewellery that's functional as well as pretty! This antique key charm would have once been used to hand wind a pocket watch and so it would have been worn on a watch chain to always keep close to hand.
The key is wonderfull detailed throughout, featuring an eagle with outspread wings stood on top of a chased detailed ball.
The key tests as at least 9ct gold, we think it's likely there is base metal inside the inner of the key to give the key strength.
Without any hallmarks, it's hard to date the key exactly but we believe it's late Victorian in age.
The key weighs approx 3.4g and measures approx 34.3mm tall by approx 13mm wide by approx 7.4mm deep.
Condition - The key is in good antique condition but does show signs of age and wear including surface wear to the gold. The bottom key section does have some small indents to it too. The jump ring is currently pushed closed. Please see photos.
