This is one of the most incedible antique pendants we've found to date and such a fitting piece for Halloween too!
The pendant has a suspended spider with a coral body, amethyst head and the most wonderful tiny gold legs eyes and antennae. The spider is hanging above its gold web that has caught a teeny tiny fly. The fly also has lovely gemstone detailing including a little pearl and blue sapphire. Not only does the spider dangle and move when worn, but the fly also can turn around to face in different directions and looks as if it is almost moving around the web. Such a cleverly designed and made piece of jewellery.
The pendant and chain are both made of 9ct gold (tested). The pendant is unhallmarked but tested and the chain looks to have a faint mark on the barrel clasp but this is now quite worn. Without hallmarks, it's hard to date the pendant exactly but we think it's likely on its original chain so we believe it's likely late Victorian or possibly very early 20th Century in age.
The pendant weighs approx 1.6g and measures approx 60mm tall (including the jump ring) by approx 21.3mm wide. The chain weighs approx 1.4g and measures approx 17 1/2 inches long
Condition - The pendant is in good antique condition but does show signs of age including some light surface wear to the gold and stones. The gold fram that holds the spiders web and the spider are a little misshapen from age and wear. There are some small signs of glue visible where the coral and pearl have been set. This pendant should not come into contact with water or liquids/lotions as the stones could loosen. One of the bottom, outer strands of the spider's web is loose to one side. This is only really noticeable on close inspection and could be fixed by a jeweller if required in the future. The chain is in good antique condition and the barrel clasp still functions well.
