Calling all charm lovers, these antique gold chased rings make such fabulous charm holders to add to necklaces. This one is even large enough to double up as a ring too!
It looks to have once been a split ring (similar to a key ring that springs open so you can thread things on) but has since been soldered closed. Charms can be added but they would need to be soldered onto the ring, rather than threaded on like a normal split ring.
The ring/charm holder has beautiful chased detailing throughout and is made of yellow gold that tests as 9ct. The ring is unhallmarked, which is very common for a piece of this age. We believe it likely dates to the Victorian era, circa late 19th Century. It could possibly have a base metal core to give the ring extra strength.
The ring/charm holder weighs approx 2.3g and measures approx 19.3mm in diameter by approx 2.3mm wide so your jump rings/bails need to be large enough to accomodate this.
When worn as a ring it measures up at approx a UK I 1/2 / approx a US 4.5
Condition - The ring/charm holder is in good antique condition with some surface wear to the gold throughout. You can just about see where the split ring would have once opened but as mentioned above it has since been soldered closed. Please see photos.
*Please note the antique box, chain and the charms pictured on the charm holder are not included in the sale but the charm holder will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch. The charms pictured are all also available in our online shop.*
