We love jewellery that's functional as well as pretty! This antique key charm would have once been used to hand wind a pocket watch and so it would have been worn on a watch chain to always keep close to hand. The top section swivels 360 degrees so it's easy to use and angle when on a chain too.
The key has a lovely heart shaped detail with an open centre and is wonderfully patterned to the edges and top ring too.
The key is gold cased, which means it is made of base metal with a fine top layer of gold to the outside to give the look of solid gold but without the price tag.
Without any hallmarks, it's hard to date the key exactly but we believe it's late Victorian in age.
The key weighs approx 2g and measures approx 31mm tall by approx 11.2mm wide by approx 5.6mm deep.
Condition - The charm is in good antique condition but does show signs of age and wear including surface wear to the gold casing and there are areas where the base metal shows. The bottom key section does have some small indents to it too. Please see photos.
