How beautiful are these antique gold and enamel horseshoe earrings!? They are so incredibly detailed, from the vibrant blue enamel, to the suspended balls drops in the centre that freely move when worn! We also love the tiny little graduated ball detail to the bottom of each horseshoe too.
Each earring features an upturned horseshoe, perfect if you love to incorporate lucky symbols in your jewels. The earrings are made of 9ct gold, unhallmarked but tested, and are on pretty twisted 9ct gold ear wires which are a later addition. The ear wires are also unhallmarked but tested.
The earrings are detailed to both sides, the blue enamel is just to one side of each horseshoe though, and they are hollow in the centre, making them super light and comfortable to wear.
Each earring measures approx 29.2mm tall from the bottom of the earring to where the ear wire connects. Including the ear wire they are approx 40.7mm tall. They are each approx 14.4mm wide and approx 5mm deep at their deepest point (this is the depth of the ball in the centre of the horseshoe). Together they weigh approx 2.7g.
Without hallmarks, it's hard to date the earrings exactly but we think they are likely Victorian in age, circa late 19th Century and the earring wires are a more modern addition.
Condition - The earrings are in well loved and used condition and show signs of age and wear throughout which is common for pieces that are over 100 years old. There is wear to both the gold and enamel, with some dings, scratches, surface wear and visible old repair marks. The loops at the top of the earrings that the earring wires connect to have worn over time. Both have significant signs of age to the back bottom sections of the horseshoes. The earrings will be steralized before shipping. Please see photos.
*Please note that the antique boxes pictured are not included in the sale but the earrings will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch.*
