We couldn't believe it when we first laid eyes on this antique Edwardian gold compact. Made of solid 9ct gold, it opens to reveal a deep section inside where a powder puff would have once sat and there's a circular mirror inside the door section too. Such a handy (and fancy) piece to own!
It would make a pretty spectacular locket or it could be used as first intended and a powder puff added.
The compact is made of 9ct gold with British hallmarks inside for 9ct gold, Chester and the date letter 'k' for 1910. There's a number '4' mark which we think was likely an old stock mark and there's also a maker's mark that starts 'W' but it has worn away slightly and so is hard to read fully.
The compact measures approx 47.7mm tall (not including the jump ring) by approx 43.5mm wide by approx 9.6mm deep and weighs approx 14.3g in total.
Condition - The compact is in well loved and worn antique condition and shows significant signs of age and wear which is expected for a piece that is over 115 years old. The compact has surface wear to the gold, inside and out, and also to the circular mirror inside. There are significant dents to both sides of the compact and also to the edge too. The mirror has wear and some damage in places too. The door hinge works well and the door pushes closed. The jump ring is currently soldered closed and also has British hallmarks for 9ct gold. Please see photos.
*Please note the box and chain pictured are not included in the sale but the compact will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch.*
