This antique brooch features the most wonderful swallow, studded with diamonds and set with a pink spinel eye. The swallow rests on a crescent moon that is also set with beautiful pink spinel stones too. 
 
The swallow is made of silver, unhallmarked, and the spinel eye has a rub over gold setting. The crescent moon is made of gold, unhallmarked and tests as at least 9ct gold. The pin and hinge fastening mechanism are made of base metal.
 
The crescent moon  measures approx 42.6mm wide by approx 24mm tall from the bottom of the moon to the top of the swallow's wing tip. The swallow measures approx 17mm wide by approx 20.6mm tall. The brooch weighs approx 4.8g in total.
 
Condition - The brooch is in good antique condition but does show signs of age and wear, including surface wear to the silver, gold, diamonds and spinels. The stones vary in size, cut and colour, there is some wear and chips to both the spinels and diamonds. The diamonds are small, rough cut diamond chips and some have been roughly set with gaps in their settings. The pin mechanism still works but the pin is now a little out of shape and is a little loose when closed. There is a small gold loop for adding a safety chain to and this would be recommended if wearing as a brooch. One of the swallow's wing tips bends around the crescent moon, we're not sure if it was made this way or if this has happened with wear. The brooch is a little 'top heavy' due to the swallow's positioning so it can tilt downwards when pinned. We have priced the brooch taking into account its condition and stone quality.
