We absolutely fell head over heels in love when we first laid eyes on this saw this antique, Art Nouveau locket. The floral details are absolutely exquisite, from the pretty gold flowers, to the curling leaf-like details, it really is a special piece with so many attributes from this period. There is even a little heart right at the bottom which is set with a garnet, as well as two further garnets towards to top framing a small seed pearl.
We thought it was only fitting to add some dried flower petals to the locket itself (these were actually left over from Kate's own wedding confetti!) but it does open so you can add your own memento inside - both the back and front have panels you can see through so you could keep something different facing either way!
The locket is made from 9ct yellow gold and is marked for the maker 'G&W' and '9ct' on the back. The three garnets are set in open back settings and the seed pearl is set in a closed back setting.
The pendant measures approx 40mm tall (approx 48.8mm tall including the bail fitting at the top) by approx 34mm wide by approx 5.5mm deep and weighs approx 6.25g in total.
Condition - The locket is in good antique condition but it does show signs of age and wear as you'd expect for a piece of over 100 years old (circa 1890-1910). There is surface wear to the gold and stones throughout. The front facing panel is plastic and is a replacement piece, the back facing panel is made of glass and we believe this is one of the original panels. The plastic panel replacement fits well and it is hard to tell it is made of plastic until you open up the locket.
The bail at the top we think could be a later addition as it is more rose gold in colour than the rest of the gold which is yellow. it is currently pushed closed around the top of the locket and is wearing a little thin at the top.
The gold fram to the back panel of the locket is a little misshapen and so one side doesn't sit completey flush to the locket. This is only really noticeable on close inspection from the back.
We have added the dried flower petals and there are also some pieces of card and backing paper in the locket. The locket opens so you can swap these out for whatever you like.
