How sweet is this antique gold Mizpah brooch!? The Hebrew word for watchtower, for centuries, particularly during the Victorian era, sweethearts have given Mizpah jewellery to their loved one when they have been separated from one another in the hope that they will remain safe and well whilst apart, until they are reunited.
This romantic brooch/pin has raised gold detailing depicting the word 'MIZPAH' as if raised on top of an open book. There is the sweetest hand engraved saying on the pages too that reads:'The Lord watch between me & thee when we are absent one from another'.
The brooch is made of 9ct gold, marked '9ct' to the back. The brooch has a simple 'c' style clasp to the back with a tube hinge pin made of silver toned base metal which likely dates to the Victorian era.
The brooch weighs approx 1.3g in total and measures approx 24.4mm wide by approx 13.7 tall.
Condition - The brooch is in good antique condition to say it is over 100 years old but does show signs of age and wear. There is surface wear to the gold and there are several small air holes to the back where the brooch is hollow. The pin fastening still works well. Please see photos.
*Please note the antique box pictured is not included in the sale but the brooch will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch.*
