We love finding antique chains, they seem to be getting harder and harder to find these days too! This particular chain has a really lovely, timeless belcher style link and a barrel clasp which is great for sliding light pendants and charms straight over (bail/jump ring size depending!).
This chain is such a versatile piece for your jewellery box and a real timeless piece too! Wear it on its own, layer it with other chains or add light charms/pendants. So many different looks in one!
The chain is made of 9ct gold and the chain has a small '9c' tag to one end near the clasp. The gold has a warm tone to it.
The chain measures approx 18 1/2 inches long including the barrel clasp. The link measures approx 2.7mm wide. The jump rings that connect the barrel clasp to the chain are slightly larger than the clasp and measure approx 4mm wide so pendant and charm jump rings/bails will need to be larger than this to pass over them. The chain weighs approx 5.4g in total.
Condition - The chain is in good antique condition but does show considerable signs of age and wear, including surface wear to the gold. There looks to be some old dark repairs to some of the links and some of the links are a little less round in shape with some indents. The barrel clasp still works well and closes with a click. It does had a small scratch to it. As with a lot of belcher link chains, the links can become twisted but they just need a little persuasion/movement to straighten out/untwist. Please see photos.
