One of our favourite styles of chains to find, this antique 9ct gold watch chain features a T-bar and two useful dog clips that when connected together work as a versatile clasp.
Chains like these were originally designed as watch chains to attach a pocket watch to, but now they make such lovely necklaces when the clips are connected together like a clasp. It measures approx 15 3/4 inches long (including the two dog clips). The T-bar is fixed to one end of the chain and there is a large jump ring part way along the curb link chain that a pendant could be fixed on to.
The dog clips make great charm holders too, it's such a versatile piece to add to your jewellery box.
The chain is a curb link that is made of 9ct gold and every link has British hallmarks for 9ct gold. The T-bar and dog clips are also hallmarked for 9ct gold and the jump ring in the middle of the curb link chain has the Birmingham Assay Office hallmark and also the date letter 'u' for 1919. The T-bar and dog clips are also marked with the maker's mark 'WHWLD' which we believe is for 'W H Wilmot Ltd' which from reasearch shows they were known as gold chain makers at Albion Street Works in Birmingham, England circa 1910-1924.
The chain measures approx 15 3/4 inches long including the dog clip clasps. The T-bar is fixed to one end of the chain. The T-bar measures approx 39.7mm wide and the curb link is approx 4.5mm wide. The chain weighs approx 26.8g in total.
Condition - The chain is in good antique condition but does show signs of age and wear, including some surface wear to the gold. The dog clip hinges work well. The jump rings are pushed closed. Please see photos.
