Originally made as a fob case to hold your stamps, this antique 1912 gold opening envelope makes such a beautiful pendant. Store your keepsakes, like photos, a mini love letter or even a lock of hair inside!
The envelope is made of 9ct gold which is rosey to the outisde and yellow to the inside. To one side, the envelope has British hallmarks for what looks to be the maker 'A.E.J', 9ct gold, Chester and the date letter 'M' for 1912. Some of these hallmarks are now a little hard to read clearly. The inside flap of the envelope also has British hallmarks for 9ct gold too and the attached jump ring. The flap opens to reveal the compartment inside and there is even a little gold clip to hold your keepsake safe inside. As the jump ring is attached to the right hand side of the envelope, when worn the pendant hangs sideways as shown in the last photo.
The envelope measures approx 23.4mm tall by approx 27.1mm wide (not including the fittings to the side) by approx 4.2mm deep and weighs approx 4g in total.
Condition - The envelope is in good antique condition but does show significant signs of age and wear, including surface wear to the gold which is to be expected with a piece that is over 100 years old. There are several dings to the gold, some very small ones to the side with the opening flap and some slightly larger ones to the other side. The hinge mechanism works well and the envelope flap clicks firmly closed. The jump ring is currently pushed closed and is a little worn in places. Please see photos.
*Please note the antique chain and box pictured are not included in the sale but the charm will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch*
