Originally made as a fob case to hold your stamps, this antique sterling silver opening envelope makes such a beautiful pendant.
We love how detailed it is to both the front and back - the back even has monogrammed initials which we believe read 'ENS'. Inside the envelope there is a small silver divider so there are two compartments, we pressume which once would have held two different types of stamps.
The envelope is made of sterling silver and has British hallmarks on the inside for the maker 'A&LL' (possibly 'A&LLS' but the silver divider inside breaks through the hallmarks), sterling silver, what looks to be the assay mark for Birmingham (again this hallmark is partially covered by the internal silver didider) and the date letter 'l' for 1910. The flap opens to reveal the two compartments inside and is also hallmarked on the inside.
The jump ring is attached to one side of the envelope so when it is worn it hangs sideways. The envelope measures approx 45.3mm tall (including the ring the jump ring attaches to but not the jump ring) by approx 26.5mm wide by approx 6.2mm deep at it's deepest point and weighs approx 9g in total.
Condition - The pendant is in good, wearable antique condition to say it is 114 years old but as expected for a piece of this age it does show signs of age and wear. there is surface wear to the silver throughout and some indents/dings to both the front and back. These look to mainly havve occurred on either side of the envelope as it is split into two compartments so the divivder in the middle has added a little extra strength in the middle. The envelope flap opens well and closes with a click. The jump ring is currently pushed closed. Please see photos.
*Please note the antique chain and box pictured are not included in the sale but the pendant will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch*
