This wonderful antique ring looks like it could tell a story or two! The old cut diamond is set in 18ct yellow gold in a pretty four pronged setting. The 18ct gold shoulders taper down to join a 9ct gold shank with unusual openwork detailing around the back of the ring. We think the ring has possibly been reshanked at some point in time, rather than being made this way originally. If only we knew the tale behind why!
The ring would make a lovely choice for a wedding or engagement ring, with the marriage of two different alloys of gold symbolising the coming together of two people!
The old cut diamond is set in 18ct yellow gold as mentioned above but isn't hallmarked, it has been tested. The shank of the ring is made of 9ct yellow gold that does match very well. This has a tiny '9ct' tag mark to the outside of the ring on one side.
Ring size - approx a US 8 / approx a UK P 1/2 - Q
The ring weighs approx 1.45g and it measures approx 8mm wide at the front, tapering down to approx 1.75mm wide at the back of the shank. The old cut diamond is approx 0.10ct.
Condition - The ring is in good antique condition but does show some signs of age and wear, including light surface wear to the gold and diamond. The ring has likely been reshanked at some point in time which is why it is made out of two different alloys of gold. The last two photos have been taken using a loupe to show a magnified look at the diamond. Please see photos.
*Please note the antique box pictured is not included in the sale but the ring will be shipped in a new presentation ring box and pouch*
