We love finding these antique love tokens, you never know what engravings you're going to find! These sentimental gifts were made of coins, smoothed down on either one side or both and then hand engraved with names, terms of endearment, special dates or even secret messages and then gifted to your loved one - such a sweet present to show your love!
This American love token has been smoothed down on one side and then hand engraved 'Mamma' with some lovely decorative engraving too. The other side has been left as is and shows the side profile of Queen Victoria. We believe from its diameter and the coin detailing that is left it was originally a 1862 Seated Liberty Dime coin.
The love token is made of silver (unmarked), USA Seated Liberty Dime coins were made of 90% silver and 10% copper, and measures approx 17.8mm in diameter (approx 20.2mm tall including the jump ring at the top) and weighs approx 2.1g. It has a new sterling silver jump ring added.
Condition - The love token is in good antique condition with some surface wear and patina to both sides. The original coin detail has been rubbed smooth over the years. The jump ring is currently pushed closed. Please see photos.
