This antique 15ct gold horseshoe ring has such beautiful detailing. The horseshoe itself is set with nine seed pearls and sits upon what looks like a gold ribbon/belt design, raised up from the ring band itself, and which is set with three pink rubies.
The ring can be worn with the horseshoe either pointing upwards or downwards. The well known good luck symbol is said to 'hold' the good luck inside the horseshoe when you wear it pointing upwards. When worn pointing downwards it is said to shower the wear in good luck.
The ring is made of 15ct gold, a gold carat that is no longer used today. 15ct gold ceased being used in 1932. The ring has British hallmarks inside the shank, these are now very worn but the Chester Assay hallmark and part of the 15 carat gold hallmark It's hard to date the ring exactly without being able to see the date hallmark but it pre-dates 1932 as it is made of hallmarked 15ct gold. We think given its style and materials that it's likely late Victorian in age.
Ring size - approx a UK L / approx a US 5.75 (we have included photos of it on a ring mandrel above as it does look to sit between sizes a little)
The ring weighs approx 3.8g and measures approx 9.4mm wide at the front (from the top to the bottom of the horseshoe) to approx 2.9mm wide at the back of the ring.
Condition - The ring is in good antique condition but does show signs of age and wear as you'd expect with a ring that's over 100 years old. There is surface wear to the gold in places and the hallmarks are partially worn away inside the ring. There is also some surface wear to the rubies and seed pearls. Please see photos
*Please note the chain and box pictured are not included in the sale but the ring will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch*
