There is something so magical about man in the moon pieces. They remind us of the many ours spent as a child trying to see the face within the moon's surface. This antique pin would be perfect for a lunar lover, or perhaps even a February baby as the twinkling star is set with a purple amethyst, the birthstone for February.  
 
The brooch is made of 15ct gold, tested, it's unhallmarked. The moon which sits at one end of a gold bar, has wonderful details to the front depicting his smiley face, to the other end of the bar is a small star which is set with a purple amethyst and the setting has been silvered to contrast beween the moon and star. 
 
To the back of the brooch is a simple clasp. The pin is made of base metal. The back of the moon is marked twice, once for 'REG 68' and 'AW9'. Both marks have been disturbed by previous gold tests and what looks to have been when the moon was attached to the bar so they sadly can't be made out fully. Without full hallmarks, it's hard to date the pin exactly but we believe it likely dates to the 1930s. 
 
The brooch weighs approx 2.6g in total and measures approx 54.5mm from end to end with the moon measures approx 20mm tall. The star measures approx 5mm wide by approx 4.5mm tall. 
 
Condition - The brooch is in good antique condition but it does show signs of age and wear. There is surface wear to the gold and amethyst stone and the back shows signs of previous gold tests. The brooch fastening still works well but the pin is a little misshapen. There is a small gold loop to the back where a safety chain could be added if desired. Please see photos.
