A popular motif during the Victorian era, anchors are known to symbolise hope and throughout time they have often been associated with people in the navy, or setting sail on voyages.
This vintage silver anchor pendant would make the perfect sentimental gift. The anchor has lovely detailing to the front, including a rope that wraps around from top to bottom known as a fouled anchor, and also three vibrant green malachite cabochons.
The pendant is made of sterling silver, marked '925' to the back. Without hallmarks, it's hard to date the pendant exactly but we think it's likely circa 1980s, modelled on earlier antique anchors given its design.
The pendant measures approx 52.7mm tall (including the ring at the top) by approx 26.3mm wide by approx 6.5mm deep and weighs approx 7.1g. The anchor is detailed to the front and plain to the back with some concave sections.
Condition - The pendant is in good vintage condition with some surface wear to the silver and malachite. We think the pendant likely had a brooch fastening to the back and at some point in time this has been removed, there are places that look to have been snaded where this would have attachedf on the back. The malachite stones have been glued in place and some glue residue can be seen on close inspection. Due to this, we do not recommend getting the pendant wet. There is a small gap between the silver and malachite on the top stone visible at one side. The stone is still currently secure. Please see photos.
*Please note the antique box and chain pictured are not included in the sale but the pendant will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch.*
