This incredibly sweet antique gold front and back locket with enamel robin and holly detail would be perfect for a winter lover. Robins are also said to represent loved ones no longer with us too so it could have a variety of different symbolism.
This is the first piece of robin jewellery we've ever found, it's such an unusual symbol to see on a locket too.
The locket is made of base metal, with a thin panel of 9ct gold to the front and back sections. This was often done to keep the cost of the overall piece down and also give the locket extra strengh, rather than make it all out of solid gold which is a weaker metal. The jump ring is also 9ct gold.
The front panel has the incredible enamel robin and holly detail and the back panel has such pretty floral detail too. Inside the locket, the back of the front panel has a glass window (this will likely need to be accessed via a jeweller if you'd like to keep something behind it. The inside of the back panel has a base metal frame to hold a photo behind that you can remove and put back yourself.
The locket is unhallmarked which is common for a piece of this age. The locket measures approx 33mm tall (not including the jump ring) by approx 22.9mm wide by aprox 8.4mm deep and weighs approx 8.15g in total.
Condition - The locket is in wearable antique condition but does show significant signs of age and wear, it has definitely lived quite the life. There is significant enamel loss in places, including to the robin but its red breast can still be made out. the locket no longer closes fully but does push together with a slight gap. There is a split to the back gold panel and it is coming away slightly on the right hand edge from the base metal but this is only really noticeable on close inspection. The jump ring is currently pushed closed. This is a well loved and worn antique piece. Please see photos.
