This antique gold suitcase locket is such an incredible piece - an heirloom just waiting to be cherished by a new owner! It has the most exquisite detailing throughout, and the two halves of the suitcase open up to reveal a glass panel locket inside just waiting to hold a tiny photo. There is also space on the other side of the photo to hold another memento too!
No detail has been spared from making this locket, from its beautiful swirling chased pattern to give the suitcase a material look to the two belted straps that actually thread in and out of two belt loops when the locket is opened and closed.
The locket is made of 9ct yellow gold (this tests as 9ct gold, the locket is unhallmarked which is common for a piece of this age). The locket measures approx 23.7mm tall (not including the jump ring) by approx 13.2mm wide by approx 11.3mm deep and weighs approx 4.25g.
Given its style and materials we believe it's likely late Victorian in age, dating to the late 19th Century.
Condition - The locket is in good antique condition for a piece that's over 100 years old but please note it does show some signs of age and wear. There is surface wear to the gold throughout. There is a glass panel to the left hand side of the locket when open, the right hand side looks to have once also had a glass panel but this is now missing. A replacement panel could be added as the frame for the glass is still there. There is some backing card behind the glass panel which is removable so you can add your own photo. The gold frames inside the locket do move a little. The jump ring is currently soldered closed and has wear to the top and bottom from rubbing on the attached ring and a previous chain. The locket doesn't click closed but it pushed closed with the gold belt detailing sliding into the belt loops. Please see photos.
*Please note the chain and box pictured are not included in the sale but the locket will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch.*
